Welcome to My Global Village Trip Page
Aside from real estate, I would like to give you a quick update on one of my other interests. I have been accepted on a Habitat Global Village Build in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. This is not about beaches and sunsets; this time I am getting my hands dirty building rather than selling homes for families who hope have to have safe and affordable housing. In my travels around the globe I have seen the hardship many people live with on a daily basis due to natural disaster and/or political unrest. Along the way, I have helped out where I can, quietly gifting money to those who have a smile on their face despite their struggles.
The reason I like this program is that families do not receive free houses; instead each family purchases and participates in the construction of their own house. This demonstrates significant commitment to the process of homeownership, and fosters pride and a sense of dignity. To qualify for a Habitat for Humanity house, a family must be in need, be able to cover the costs of a modest mortgage, and be willing to contribute significant hours of sweat equity toward the construction of their home. Families are chosen by a committee at the local level through a process of application review, with preference given to families with the greatest need. Their house payments are placed into a revolving Fund for Humanity to be used to build more houses.
The Global Village Build starts on November 17, 2017 but fundraising starts today with this invitation to help reach my fundraising goal. I believe that everyone deserves a safe and decent home and I hope you also share my passion.
